Found Aloud
Words overheard and recorded for contemplation and inspiration.
This project began as a pursuit of photography but quickly found a new home with Art-O-Mat.
phrases are found and placed on collaged blocks that are then dispensed as art pieces in repurposed cigarette vending machines. Art-O-Mat blocks are available all around the world.
Below are selections from batches of blocks.
BATCH #1
The first batch of Art-O-Mat blocks [50 blocks] uses phrases I gathered over a period of months. I chose fifteen phrases for this batch and repeated them throughout the collection.
Locations
Old NO. 77 Hotel - New Orleans, LA
Camino Bakery - Winston-Salem, NC
Red Dog Gallery - Winston-Salem, NC
Cosmopolitan - Las Vegas, NV
BATCH #2
I enjoyed getting back into listening for this batch. I had already used up all my found phrases for Batch #1 and photographs, so I intentionally placed myself in spaces of listening and opened my ears to words.
Locations
Rubinstein Arts Center at Duke University - Durham, NC
Meow Wolf - Santa Fe, NM
Slims Downtown - Raleigh, NC
A/perture Theatre - Winston-Salem, NC
Camino Bakery - Winston-Salem, NC
Batch #3
Batch #5
BATCH #4
For this batch, I focused on listening rather than gathering. There are less phrases in this batch, but I really enjoyed the process of finding them.
